TERMITES

DO YOU HAVE TERMITES?

Every year thousands of homes are attacked by termites, fungus, or other wood destroying pests.  Home purchasers need to know if these pests are present before investing their money.  Therefore, it is wise to have the property inspected by a representative of a licensed pest control company who can detect the presence of work destroying pests and can provide a report on his findings and recommendation for correction.

Types of termite infestation:

Subterranean Termite mud tubes can appear virtually anywhere throughout your home.  Here we see the tubes emerging from the slab of a garage and the sub-floor of a sub-area. The subterranean termite is the number one wood destroying pest in the United States, hence, its name is often attached to the so-called “Termite Report.”

Dry Wood Termite will not produce the mud tubes likes its cousin the Subterranean Termite. What you will find instead will be the termite damage consisting of smooth, clean, galleries, just below the outer surface of the wood and or pile of pellets lying in mounds at the base of walls, in attic spaces, or sub-areas.

Both of these termites will produce a winged form and can be differentiated by their color and size.  The dry wood termite Alate (Primary Reproductive) will have a distinctive red head, while the Subterranean Alate will be much smaller and all black.  Both termites will have wings that run directly behind their bodies.

Other Wood Insects:

There are other wood destroying insects, including some other species of termites, which may also be included in the report, such as:

  • DAMP WOOD TERMITES
  • WOOD DESTROYING BETTLES
  • WOOD BORING BEES
  • WOOD BORING WASPS
  • WOOD DESTROYING FUNGUS AND WOOD ROT
  • CARPENTER ANTS

These are the two most common wood destroying pests you will come across.  There are many other species, this is where you pest professional can assist you. If you see any of these termites on your property, contact us!
